Indiana Nurses Foundation Announces Indiana’s 2023 Nurses of Influence

May 19th, 2023 (Indianapolis, IN) - The Indiana Nurses Foundation (INF) announces Indiana’s most influential nurses serving Hoosiers, future nurses, and as role models to the nursing community. The following list of nurses, elevated by their peers, embody the core values of nursing including human dignity, integrity, autonomy, altruism, and social justice. The INF’s Nurses of Influence ensure the ongoing legacy of our profession by advancing the care we provide and strengthening the current nursing workforce.  Join us in celebrating the INF’s top 3 category winners and all nominees by honoring the following nurses.

The Indiana Nurses Foundation has strengthened Indiana nurses practice since 1976. As a philanthropic organization, the INF serves to support nurses’ contributions to the advancement of care through research and quality improvement, as well as promote professional development fostering leadership, advocacy, and community amongst nursing. The INF continues to build Indiana’s nursing legacy for nurses practicing today and of the future.

The following nurses, as recognized by their colleagues, exhibit influential qualities inspiring others to reach their maximum potential. The positive influence of nurses boosts morale and promotes a psychologically safe workplace, which leads to higher job satisfaction. Nurses of influence positively impact the care delivered to patients, promote a healthy work environment, and have a role in shaping the future of the nursing profession. Through respect, responsibility and empathy, a nurse of influence is the light that keeps our lamp lit and uses these skills to change the health and wellbeing of our communities. This award is meant to highlight and signify the unwavering work and commitment to the profession and those we serve.

Indiana’s 2023 Emerging Nurse Leader

- $500 -

Milica Milicevic, RN, BSN

Lead Charge RN, Pediatric Emergency Department, Lutheran Hospital

Leaders in nursing are not always defined by their title or by a position of authority, but by their impact on colleagues and patients. Effective leaders respect the importance of a multidisciplinary team approach, navigate change with ease, and are recognized as problem solvers. Within the nursing profession leaders serve as role models influencing health care delivery and improving workplace culture. The emerging nurse leaders here serve a crucial role in mentoring future nurses as well as the nursing leadership of tomorrow.

Indiana’s 2023 Nursing Educator of the Year

- $500 -

Libby Richards, PhD, RN, CHES

Director PhD Program & Associate Professor, Purdue University School of Nursing

The art of teaching ignites students’ interests and inspires our future researchers and leaders and impacts are made well past their time on campus. Teaching is a noble act that shapes the character, caliber, and ultimately our future. Nursing educators promote both excellence in nursing and advocacy for our profession. Without teachers, we lack the foundation and continued evolvement for our profession.

Indiana’s 2023 Top Nurse of Influence

- $1000 -

Yadira Santiago Banuelos, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, CLC

Family Nurse Practitioner, Family Health Clinic of Monon

(a Purdue-Partnered North Central Nursing Clinic)

The INF’s Nurses of Influence Awards highest distinction recognizes a nurse with significant impact and one who is committed to the promotion of the art and science of nursing. A nurse of influence is one that not only has the power to change our profession and the patients we serve but has harnessed that power into truly making a difference. This individual has excelled in their area of expertise through exemplary care, practice, and influence.

The INF would like to thank our internal and external judges who participated in the blinded review of the nominations provided by nurses of influence colleagues. The INF surprised the top three award winners with a sweet treat, bouquet of flowers, and a giant (faux) check, which was all around favorite part of the surprise celebration. We would also like to thank the nominators that participated in the 2023 Nurses of Influence Award call out. Without your kind words and elevation of these influential nurses, the INF 2023 Awards wouldn’t have become a reality. We thank Lutheran Hospital, Purdue University School of Nursing, and the Family Health Clinic of Monon for your support in celebrating these wonderful nurses.
